I just started a new blog that has all my digital scrapbook pages in it (see sidebar). I'm doing a 31 in 31 challenge, which is 31 pages in 31 days. I got started a little late, but have caught up. I just can't beleive how much faster digital scrapbooking is and how much cheaper it is, and how much time I can spend doing it. So, it's about 1:45 and I'm still in my p.j's (so is Zack), Ashlyn is playing at a friend's house and I just got four pages done. I did have to journal so I don't feel like today is a whole big waste!
Here is a new recipe that I wanted to share. I got this recipe from Shelly (see sidebar)and when I made it, it was soooo good and a big hit. Even the little kids liked it. So you definately should give it a try! Shelly did it in a one big cake shaped like a sunflower. I didn't have the cake pan so I did individual bunt cakes for each person.
Banana Cake with burnt butter frosting
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup buttermilk or sour milk
2 medium ripe bananas, smashed
2 eggs
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Mix everything together. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Pour into 9x13 pan (I used the Demarle sunflower mold). Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Burnt Butter Frosting
1 cube butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
milk to consistency
Melt butter in pan on stove until foam cooks off and the color is a deep caramel. Pour butter over powdered sugar. Add vanilla and milk to the consistency you want. Beat for about one minute.
Note: I like this cake warm so I make the frosting pourable so I can just pour it on, let it drizzle down the sides and eat it. You can make it thicker and spread it on like a more traditional cake.
Karri's Note: regarding the burnt butter, if you let the foam totally cook off, it tastes really really burnt! I only melted it and cooked it for just a little bit and it was yummy!
By the Way, for all you that have had 1-4 p.m. church before, any suggestions on what to do before church starts? We're used to not doing anything until church started and that's what we've been doing til 1 p.m. a whole lot of NOTHING. We use to go visit family after church, but that is when we were done by 2 and I felt like we got things accomplished. I feel like Sundays are wasted (besides the spirtual uplifting we get from church) because we don't get home til 4, eat dinner and then go to bed.

Oh. Yum.
We just began the 1-4 church schedule, too, and I have the same thought! Together, let's come up with a fun family sabbath schedule!
I've gotta make this cake again soon. It is sooo yummy! Glad you like it!
We have church at 1:30 and it is so hard. It especially messes with Boston's nap time and she is a BEAR at church!
I am amazed at all of your pages! They look awesome and I can't wait to try the cake!
That cake looks fabulous!
And I LOVE all your scrapbook pages!!! You are great! I'm so happy that you just started and are making such fantastic pages. It gives me hope for myself! I can't wait to start. And for the Heritage Maker books, do you print them in 12x12 or smaller?
What I've done in the past is make one scrapbook for each child. It has lots of pictures for their first year and then I've tried to scale back a little so they don't have a million scrapbooks to take with them one day. And I also do a family one where I put EVERYTHING. I'm so behind tho. That's why I'm excited that digital scrapbooking is fast and easy (or at least you make it look that way)!
