100% Whole Wheat

I got a little taste of what it was like to live in the "olden" days today. I've been on this bread fetish for the last couple weeks and thought I"d try out my hand wheat grinder and make some bread. EVERYONE needs to try this. It has the best flavor. I will be honest with you. I've heard that hand ground wheat is much better than store bought wheat and the recipe calls for hand ground wheat. So if it doesn't turn out, go buy some wheat. We bought 500 lbs of "the best" wheat almost a year ago for our food storage. It was so amazing to me to see all the wheat whole and then it ground into the flour. Pretty amazing! So here is what we started with

Here's us working our little hands off

Here's the wheat being ground

Here's the finished product

....and here's a happy family enjoying the bread

Now I did learn a very valuable lesson today. My "hand" grinder will come in very handy when in desperate need, but as long as I have electricity I'm going for an automatic wheat grinder! It literally took an hour to grind 6 cups of flour, but well worth it.

Great job grinding your own wheat! We got a hand grinder a few months ago, I should get it out and grind away! I would love the recipe you used. You're kids look so happy eating that yummy bread!

Good job! I have a hand grinder but have not used it. I have a VitaMix blender that has a dry attachment for grinding wheat. I love it! Making your own wheat bread is very fulfilling!

I have never grounded wheat before. You are so domestic. I am lucky to get my kids dinner every day. The bread looks yummy.

It is me again. I know how you feel about accidently fogeting something on a blog recipe. Luckily a friend of mine caught on my poppy seed dressing recipe that I had two igredients for sugar when I needed white vinegar instead of white sugar. I had to hurry and change it. I hope no one tried to make it, if so they would have had a nice bite of sugar.
